Carolina Pires was born in 1978, in the village of Melgaço. She is married and has two children.
She has a degree in Social Communication - Media (1996-2001), with a final classification of 14 (0-20), by the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Minho, institution where she recently completed a postgraduate degree in Communication Sciences.
In 2012, she concluded the FORGEP - Training Program in Public Management, at the National Institute of Administration (ING), Porto, with a final classification of 16.4 (0-20). During her initial academic career, she obtained a Higher Degree in the Spanish Language and Culture Course of the Complutense University of Madrid, after being selected for a scholarship from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain.
Also, between 2008 and 2009, she joined the Master's Program in Marketing and Strategic Management of the School of Economics and Management, having attended and being approved in several curricular units, developing her professional training and personal growth.
Her professional career began shortly after graduating in 2001 at UMinho's Public Relations Office, mainly providing assistance in the areas of press counselling, event organization and internal communication, first as a trainee and later as a higher technician. This service has been reformulated in 2003, therefore she has been transferred to the Communication, Information and Image Office of UMinho, exercising the following functions: press office; management of the contents of the institutional site; preparation of the Internal Bulletin; she has worked on the Project "University of Minho, University without Walls"; she has been in charge of the institutional merchandise, inventory management and online store; she also worked on the organization and assistance to solemn ceremonies and other events organized by the Rectory.
In 2006, she was invited to be the Secretary of the Rector of the University of Minho, being responsible for the coordination of the Rector's Support Service, developing the following activities:
- advise the Rector, through the dossiers’ provision to support decision-making;
- daily preparation of documentation for the Rector's office;
- contact element of the Office of the Rector with the different services of the University;
- prepare all the Rector public participations;
- processing the hiring, collaboration and cooperation processes of teaching staff submitted to the Rector;
- reception, classification, distribution and archiving of the entire file associated with the Office of the Rector;
- management of the different spaces of the Rectory;
- organization and support for solemn ceremonies and other events.
Since 2010, she has been the Secretary of School at EAUM (School of Architecture of the University of Minho) assuming the following functions:
- coordination of the Administrative Services of EAUM
- technical and legal advice to different bodies of EAUM;
- preparation of meetings of the Scientific Council;
- secretariat of meetings of the School Council (by election);
- secretariat of meetings of the Management Council (inherent to the position);
- interaction with the Rector's Office;
- preparation of dossiers to assist the Presidency in the decision-making;
- Preparation of the EAUM Annual Reports of Activities and Financial records;
- monitoring the internal and external evaluation processes;
- monitoring the creation and restructuring of study cycles;
- support to the interaction of EAUM with society (Institutions / External Entities), providing direct support to the School Presidency in these contacts;
- development of the communication and image policy at EAUM (website, graphic material, press relations, contact with the Communication Office, assistance in the organization of every scientific and cultural events of the School);
